World War 2

World War II Pre-war events: What Started It All

We may be all too familiar with what took place during World War II. How two opposing forces, the Allied and Axis fought it out in the battlefield and who eventually won the war. But what we may not be too familiar of is how the war actually started? Here is a simple narration of the important events that created the spark and started the largest war known to human race.

  1. Germany’s fear of Communism = the rise of Adolf Hitler
As political instability rose in Germany and the threat of a communist reign rose in Germany, more and more Germans became desperate in finding a single leader that could bring back stability to the country. Amidst it all, Hitler rose to be one of the main candidates of the said position and was finally appointed Chancellor of a coalition government in January 30, 1933. After a few years, he eventually seized all government powers and declared himself as the “savior” that will bring the country out from depression.
  2. War breaks out in the European front: Nazi invasion of Poland
As a part of Hitler’s plan in bringing back Germany’s old glory, Hitler materialized his very first parts of his invasion plans by annexing neighboring countries such as Poland. France and Britain, being Poland’s ally immediately declared war against Germany but provided very little military support. But is spite of this, this single move sparked the conflict between Germany and the rest of the European countries which will eventually become one of the key members of the Allied forces.
  3. War breaks out in the Asian front: Japan’s invasion of Manchuria
With Imperial Japan’s attempt to increase its borders and colonies, it stated first of its many attacks in the Pacific with the invasion of Manchuria – which is at the time, extremely rich in resources and goods. Japan’s reason for the invasion: an alleged attack on one of their railroads in the Manchurian border. Their attack however was not able to successfully crush the Chinese government and only led to its relocation to Chonquing.

These key World War II pre-war events were the key that started the global war. Each event led to cascading happenings that eventually involved a number of countries all around the globe. As more and more countries were invaded by Japan and Germany, this led to the creation of the Allied forces (lead by the Big Three: US, USSR and France) and Axis forces (led by Italy, Japan and Germany). World War II has indeed changed the course of history bringing in new Superpowers to the global scene and even new diplomatic laws in terms of warfare and human rights.
